  15. SYMPTOMS

  18. After you upgrade COMPAQ SYSTEMPRO from a single processor to a dual
  19. processor, Windows NT doesn't recognize the second processor.
  20.  
  21. CAUSE
  22. =====
  23.  
  24. If you install Windows NT on a single-processor SYSTEMPRO, Setup
  25. installs HAL.DLL and NTOSKRNL.EXE for a single-processor system. If
  26. you then add a second processor, it is not recognized when you reboot.
  27. On most other multi-processor systems that originally had a single
  28. processor when Windows NT was installed, the multi-processor HAL and
  29. kernel are installed. As a result, the second processor is recognized
  30. automatically.

  32. RESOLUTION

  35. To work around this problem, boot your computer from an MS-DOS command
  36. prompt and copy HALSP.DLL from the original Windows NT disk(s) to the
  37. %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32 directory as HAL.DLL. Then, copy NTKRNLMP.EXE to
  38. %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32 directory as NTOSKRNL.EXE. If a kernel debugger
  39. is connected, update the symbols on it.
